Modern Craftsman Residence

The Skimmerhorn Street clients came to VFLA in hopes of totally revamping and changing the way their home functioned for them as they aged. As the design developed, it became clear that a tear down and re-build was the better solution for them. They loved their site and their neighbors so much, that’s exactly what we did! The view to the east over Fort Collins was a main driving force for the new layout and flow of space.

The charm of their home was replicated with a ‘Modern Craftsman’ design concept. Local businesses were a huge part of this projects success and uniqueness. Baldwin Hardwoods salvaged black walnut trees from the site and created an 18’ long, live edge bar top, as well as all of the floating stair treads in the heart of the home. Anytime a natural knot occurred, he filled them with natural turquoise pebbles and clear epoxy – take a look! Baldwin also created a custom barn door out of solid walnut that hosts unique stained glass that brings in the craftsman charm the clients were after.

The Artisan Shop in Loveland hand made all of the cabinets in the home; adorned with solid, dovetail construction walnut interiors, and a custom finish and profile in each room. Pin and Scroll made the double sided wine cellar door for the home – charcoal gray on one side, and fumed white oak on the other. The detail was just what the clients were hoping for!

All of the metal work in the home, including the enormous range hood and the waterfall island counter, is from Raw Urth located in Fort Collins. All of the tile was sustainably sourced from places like Fireclay, and Tabarka (all the way from Italy!).
