Set on a property in Windsor, Colorado with views to the Mountains and Longs Peak, this new community amenity building consists of a community gathering space, bar and grill, park and pool house with restrooms and showers. These functions are oriented to take advantage of the views and have multiple outdoor spaces with varying degrees of shelter, from fully covered, to partially covered to exposed.
Communal spaces are becoming increasing important in multi-family housing and can help create thriving communities among residents. Our community amenity building nurtures the importance of social connection and tenants growing desire for community.
The building design was inspired by the additive process of the past settlers of the area who utilized the building materials predominately found in the area, stone and timber. These are used on the buildings in varying degrees to give visual weight to the buildings to make them appear grounded and part of the site.
Tying the community building and pool building together is a story and a half stone portal with large inoperable wood doors and an open interior revealing a large iron bell reminiscent of an agricultural complex from a bygone era.
The design of the interiors is in contrast to the heavy exterior with its large, open, double height space illuminated by rows of clerestory windows and walls of glass. The exterior materials are carried inside creating the appearance of full stone walls supporting timber trusses.
