This 3,000 square foot home overlooks Pinewood Reservoir. VFLA designed the structure to utilize glue-lam beams, steel, and reclaimed bowling alley lanes as the main floor decks. Advanced framing techniques allowed for the maximization of insulation for lower lifecycle costs to the owners. Passive solar design is utilized with broad sections of glazing on the south face of the house, shaded by roof overhangs, while 16 solar hot water tubes located on the roof supplement the system by storing heat in closed-loop transfer tanks in the mechanical room, used for both radiant floor heating and domestic hot water.
